I am available for hire and would love to work with you to create dynamic and eye-catching content for your business or organization. I know from my experience on your side of the business world how important it is to have a professional, accurate, and exciting message conveyed through an online presence, social media platforms, blogs, press releases, and more.
As you may have noticed in some of the posts here on my blog, I have a sense of humor and I’m not afraid to use it! So, if you are looking for the funny – consider me to help with your writing. Not to be outdone, I also have technical writing and editing experience that calls for funny to take a back seat while we focus on clear and concise instructional content.
Need help in these areas? Reach out to me and let’s see if I can take some of these things off your already full plate, leaving you more time for dessert!
Web Content
My writing can be funny, serious, instructional, or all of the above. Web content writing is a chore for some, but I love it. If you want to grow your fledgling business or increase your readership, hiring a professional writer just might be the way to go. I’ve been writing content for websites for over 12 years and I know that dynamic words and gripping content can draw your readers in and paint a professional online image for potential customers, donors, and clients.
Press Releases
I have written hundreds (in reality, maybe thousands!) of press releases over the years. Writing them professionally so that already over-extended media will push your messaging out is as important as anything you will do in your business. Sometimes, though, these can be time consuming to get right, so consider hiring me to make them pop!
Blogging
Writing a blog can become a slog. (Resisting the urge to make this a limerick…)
As a professional blogger for hire, I can help you stay on top of your blog and keep fresh content flowing out to your readers. Much like content writing, providing the right angle, readable format, and interesting (and useful) content can help you draw and deepen the relationships you’ve built through your blog and your business.
Articles
I can help with writing for such things as your organization or company newsletter and other kinds of articles that you want to push out to the public or your constituency. Writing with the “company voice” in mind, I have a knack for making the case – whether it is to find donors, inform the public, or reach potential clients – and I would love to have a conversation with you about how I can help.
Ghostwriting
Are you trying to finish (or start!) that novel? Do you need some speech-writing skills? What about personal essays or memoirs? My goal is always to capture your voice and write in your speaking style. Authenticity is important and with my human services background, I think I love this aspect of professional writing best.
Copywriting
If there were a job called Professional Letter Writer, I would have made my career in it. This obsession for writing well-crafted letters began decades ago when I would write to elected officials or to companies about their product or to compliment (or, if I am being honest, complain) about a service received. We began to notice that my letters almost always received helpful responses. Soon, neighbors and friends would ask me to write their letter when they ran into a road block. I have even written court testimony for a civil case before! (He won!) Good letters and emails are your front-facing message to the public and I can help get that message right in a way that is readable, understandable, and most importantly, effective.
I can help you with other copywriting needs, as well, including web content, advertising copy, product descriptions, and online books and tutorials. I especially love to help with marketing. Directing nonprofit fundraising over a 20 year career has taught me why getting the right message out, in a consistent way that draws volunteers, donors, clients, and customers in and makes them feel part of the group, while illustrating to them the value of your hard work, should be a top priority.
Editing
I am one of those people who love to read copy for typos. I KNOW. It’s a weird obsession, but my obsession leads to clean content and clearer messaging for you! I once edited a book on the Internet of Things. I kindly told the author who hired me that I didn’t even know what that phrase meant. In the end, it didn’t matter. I did not need to understand it, but I did need to make it readable and less tech-y. I may have been the exact right person to do the editing on that job because I could approach the readability issue as a civilian (as opposed to a tech-head!) At the end of the project, I did learn what the Internet of Things was and a whole lot more!
Whether your document, book, or essay is in rough or final form, I would love to have a go at making it even better. I used to be a volunteer editor for a high school writing class. If I can handle them, I can handle anything.
Do contact me at cas212@gmail.com if any of the above might make sense for you. I offer reasonable rates, especially helpful for new businesses, nonprofits, and individuals looking for writing assistance.
A little about my writing experience…
I studied Interpersonal and Public Communications at Bowling Green State University for four years and hold a degree in Human Services which prepared me well for a career in the nonprofit world as an Executive Director. Often the main spokesperson and public face to the media and funders, I managed media, communications, and all development and fundraising activities for large and small organizations.
Writing press releases, copy for publication, blog and website content, and maintaining a dynamic social media presence were my core responsibilities before I left to become a consultant. Since that time, I have worked with Transit Organizations, Health and Welfare Organizations, Churches and Volunteer Groups, Mentoring Organizations, Universities and Public & Private School Groups, Women & Family Nonprofit Organizations, Minority Collaboratives, Chambers of Commerce, Membership Organizations, Professional Associations, and Health & Welfare Agencies.
I have had the privilege of working with a whole range of organizations, both small and large, including The American Heart Association, Purple Line NOW, Tennessee Valley Unitarian Church, Unitarian Church of Spartanburg, Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network, Women in Transition Partnership, Northwestern University, University of Tennessee, Big Brothers Big Sisters, as well as many other grassroots initiatives and start-ups, including political campaigns.
I live in the greater Washington DC area, but I am able to work with organizations regardless of their geographic location, depending on the services desired. I am used to traveling for clients, working via Zoom, Teams, Skype, telephone and email, and find that distance rarely presents an issue.
